Kylie – The Brand

Kylie Minogue is not just a successful singer, she’s a global celebrity as well and with that comes brand power. In her career, Kylie has launched everything from perfume to underwear and seems to be enjoying the projects she has chosen to involve herself in.

Known for her style, glamour, and attention grabbing stage costumes, it’s not surprising many of these projects have been in the fashion and beauty industry.

Kylie’s foray into perfumes began in 2006 with a deal with Coty, and this saw the launch of her first perfume ‘Darling’ which became a best seller in the U.K and Australia. In 2007 she launched a variation of her first fragrance, ‘Sweet Darling’, and recently has also launched ‘Showtime’ and ‘Sexy Darling’. The perfumes have contained scents of musk, sandalwood, passion fruit, and strawberry, with each fragrance said to reflect either the sexy/sensual or fun/glamorous side of Kylie’s character.

Another way of inspiring sexy confident women has been through her lingerie range, Love Kylie. It first hit the U.K shops in 2003 and demand outstripped supply. Manufacturers Holeproof have said of the range, “Love Kylie ranges are a reflection of that distinctive Kylie style: unashamedly sexy, confident, flirtatious, and fun. Kylie is involved in every aspect of the range and we are constantly amazed at how Kylie finds time in her busy schedule to dedicate to the creation of ‘Love Kylie’.” The range of products has also attracted its own celebrity following with Beyonce, Reece Witherspoon, and Janet Jackson said to be fans.

A deal also followed with high street retailer H&M to be a face of their summer 2007 beachwear range, which Kylie launched with a performance in Shanghai. The 15 styles of beachwear, which Kylie also modelled in T.V adverts for the store, were themed around the singer’s native Australia. Ten percent of the proceeds were also donated to the Wateraid charity.

Finally, for adults, 2008 also saw the launch of Kylie’s ‘At Home’ bed linen range, which first went on sale at House of Fraser and Debenhams. Despite all the media jokes about ‘slipping into bed with Kylie’ the range of duvets and accessories reflect the classy side of Kylie, with an added bit of sparkle.

One of the enduring things about Kylie has always been her ability to reach, and appeal to all age groups, and so after inspiration from her ex-boyfriend, Kylie has written a children’s book. ‘The Showgirl Princess’ was released by Puffin in 2006 and tells the tale of a young girls rise to fame. Although drawing on Kylie’s own experiences, it’s a tale of positivity, self belief, and teamwork for all little girls ‘who love to dress up and have fun’.

All these products, along with Kylie’s ever growing catalogue of music and merchandise, will ensure the pint sized pop star adorns our shop shelves in one way or another for many years to come!
