"I'M up early most mornings as Ileave the house at 7am and get to work just in time to have a quick cup of tea before my shift starts at 8am. I work full-time at The Witchery hotel in Edinburgh as a housekeeper, but I always say I'm a 'creator of fantasies'. It's like an adventure every day when I go there. We've even had the Darkness stay there. I saw them lying across the bed half naked in leather trousers, which was very nice! You cannae be working on days like that!
In my free time, I try to cram in as much dancing as possible. On a Tuesday night, I do a Bollywood dance class, which is taught by a wee man from Nepal. Then I do a belly dancing class for two hours. I've been belly dancing now for 15 years.
I'd been living in my house here in Edinburgh for about a year or so when I noticed it in the paper.
Even before I took up belly dancing, I always liked to dance.
When we were staying in Broughty Ferry, I went to disco-dance classes.
That was a laugh! I always think that when you move to a different place, you should join something. Since I've been here I've done Salsa, African dance, and even Gum Boot dancing!
But it was at the belly-dancing classes that I met four of my best friends. We've been dancing together now for about 12 years and we still meet every Tuesday to do regular performances together for charities and various other things.
For the past seven years, we've gone to Egypt together to dance. We get costumes, go to clubs, and belly dance with the local dancers. The first time we went, there were 34 women, from lawyers to barmaids, and some had only danced for six weeks. I thought to myself, I shouldn't be here - ordinary people don't do things like this! My friends that are teachers run lots of trips to Egypt now and all ages go. One lady who still goes, even though she's given up performing, is in her 80s.
Another woman and I used to dance in a restaurant for five years.
They had theme nights, so it was always full. Everybody expects young belly dancers and then us pair appear! But going to Egypt is the best. I'm looking forward to going next year because I want to buy more dresses. That's where we get most of our costumes.
I also do pole dancing, which I really enjoy. Like the belly dancing, it's one of those things you see on the television, the forbidden type of things you're not meant to do, but I'm sure every woman must wonder if they can do it. Every woman wants to feel sexy and have that wee bit of power over men. So, I thought, I'm going to try that.
I think I was a bit of a novelty because all the other girls are in the 20s and I'm 53, but I just keep turning up! By lesson five, you're meant to be going upside down on a pole but I know my limits. But with the help of a few friends, I got the sensation because they all turned me upside down and I managed to hang on and slide down the pole.
On your last night in the class, you have to do your own performance with your own music. I always just go with whatever music I like and go over the top. One time I was Doris Day on the pole, dancing to Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps. I was also a Kylie Minogue Santa Claus dancing to Santa Baby.
There's a strip class on at the moment but I couldn't go because it was on at the same time as one of my other classes. I've always wanted to twirl tassels on my nipples. There's a movie where a woman does it in different directions at the same time and it goes into high speed. I was always fascinated with tassels after that. I can't do it, though - I've tried!
My daughter thinks my dancing is great and now she's into the belly dancing too. My son has just bought a flat, so I told him as soon as he moves out, I'm getting a pole installed in his bedroom! My husband's great - as long as I'm happy, he doesn't say anything and just goes along with it.
This Friday, my friends and I are holding a Hafla, which is like an Egyptian ceilidh. Right now, I'm working on this wig to wear at it. It's got a shoe with a champagne glass in it but the shoe keeps falling off.
Every year, I do a comic routine and that's what I'm wearing this year.
I'm going to go as a drag queen and be named Miss Sandwich Spread because I'm dancing to Meatloaf.
You might think I'm tired in the evenings after all my dancing, but I get more tired if I'm doing nothing.
The hubby keeps saying to me to sit down. If I'm going to sit down, it's usually at about 11.30pm. I'm never into bed before 1am. I only need about four hours sleep at the most anyway, and then it's up bright and early to do it all over again!"
