Fans of recently split band Blue won't have to wait too long to see the boys back in action - it seems every one of the gorgeous foursome is planning an acting career.
As our exclusive pics reveal, Simon Webbe is already filming his debut role in upcoming Brit flick, The Truth About Love, which will hit our cinema screens on Valentine's Day next year. Simon, 25, plays a footballer, Dan Harlow, who is caught up in a sex scandal and sues a newspaper. The film also stars Dougray Scott, Jimi Mistry and US movie babe Jennifer Love Hewitt. 'It's a great experience working with such top actors,' says Simon. 'I was thrown in the deep end right away. I remember walking into the make-up room and being really star-struck. But they've been very encouraging.'
The singer dabbled with acting and was also a footballer, playing for Port Vale and Stoke City, before signing up with Blue, so he should be a natural in the role. A pal told us, 'Simon acted before joining the band and now he's a well-known face, it makes sense to make the transition to films.'
As well as the success he's had with Blue, Manchester-born Simon has proved to be quite an entrepreneur in other areas of the entertainment business. He already has his fingers in several lucrative pies, with his own production company, Live 4 Music, as well as a talent-spotting agency, Industry People. He also manages the band VS, who had a hit earlier this year with Call U Sexy, and new singer Sara Lowes.
Somehow, on top of all this, Simon's succeeded in breaking into the acting world and the singer seems determined to make an impression. He's already lined up another part in British gangster flick Rolling With The Nines, out next year, where he plays a hip- hop star, alongside Snatch and Lock Stock stars Vas Blackwood and Jason Flemyng.
'It's true there's been lots of interest in him already,' says a source. 'Simon's a former model, so he's not exactly shy and it goes without saying he's gorgeous. It's only a matter of time before he comes to the attention of Hollywood.'
MORE BLUE MOVIES? Simon's not the only Blue boy keen to make it on the big screen. The race for Tinseltown is definitely on...
ANTONY COSTA
Antony is keen to get into acting too, and has also been signed up by none other than Shane Richie's acting agent, who's said to be grooming him for a career in TV and film. Although big-budget movies are the 23- year-old's dream, Ant is prepared to learn his trade on TV and is said to be after a role in EastEnders. 'I feel like I've got the most to prove out of all of us,' admits Antony. 'But I've got some surprises up my sleeve, so watch this space.'
DUNCAN JAMES
Having already dabbled in presenting and making TV shows with the production company he set up with occasional snog-partner, Tara Palmer Tomkinson, 25-year-old Duncan is now itching to get in on some big screen action. A friend says the sexy singer has set his heart on making it in Hollywood. 'Duncan's had the time of his life with Blue,' says the friend, 'but now he wants to use his status to launch an acting career. He knows his female fans would love to see him on the big screen.'
But some think the real reason for Duncan choosing to go into movies - rather than pursue a solo singing career - is he's worried about competing with bandmate, Lee Ryan. 'Lee's a fantastic singer and their styles are fairly similar, so Duncan knows it will be tough to go up against him,' says our source.
LEE RYAN
Instead of being a rival, Lee may end up giving Dunc the acting break he needs, as the Blue boy everyone is tipping as most likely to make it as a solo singing star is concentrating on a new career as a movie director instead. During a summer break from Blue earlier this year, Lee, 21, enrolled on a six-week film directing course in New York and has signed up with Sexy Beast star Ray Winstone's agent, indicating acting is on the cards, too. So what prompted Lee's decision?
'I co-directed the video for our single, Breathe Easy, and really enjoyed it,' Lee says. 'I want to learn more about directing.'
Lee's known as the clown of Blue, often being papped drunk or with his pants round his ankles. But it seems he's ready to get serious. His first stint behind the camera will be directing a movie about under-privileged kids with learning difficulties, called Changes. Lee penned the script himself, drawing on his own experiences of growing up with dyslexia.
If Lee's directing career takes off, Simon, Duncan and Ant could have acting roles for life...
FROM MUSIC TO THE MOVIES...
More singers searching for film fame
Gwen Stefani Sassy No Doubt frontwoman Gwen will soon be seen starring as Jean Harlow opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Aviator, a biopic about movie mogul Howard Hughes, out next month. But the auditions proved to be quite a trial for the singer, who's obviously too accustomed to the celeb treatment. 'It's humiliating, because you get used to being a star and there are all these other girls in the same hotel trying for other parts and they know who you are.' Sounds almost too much to bear!
Will Young
Looking like a young Norman Wisdom, Will is making his movie debut in musical comedy, Mrs Henderson Presents, alongside Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins. The singer plays a bit of a clown in the flick, falling in love with a woman who he then knocks into a river. But it looks like Will's on the hunt for more serious roles in the future. 'I'd like to do period drama,' he says. 'My look, accent and dress suit it best.'
Ashanti R'n'B songstress Ashanti recently turned her attention to acting, and wasted no time in scoring her big-screen debut in upcoming baseball movie, Coach Carter. The singer seems to have secured a fan in the shape of her co-star, acting legend Samuel L Jackson, despite refusing to wear the proposed ultra-short shorts for the film. 'I know it's a movie and you have to stay in line with the character,' Ashanti explained. 'I'm just not necessarily going to show my goods off.' Makes a change for Hollywood...
Madonna Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the cinema... Madonna is having another bash at acting. But this time it shouldn't be quite so painful, as she's only providing a voiceover. Madge - sorry, Esther (see p29) - will offer her vocal talents as Princess Selenia in an animated children's flick, Arthur, out in 2006. With raspberries like Shanghai Surprise, The Next Best Thing and Swept Away behind her, it's probably for the best she lets her cartoon character do the tricky bit.
Kylie Minogue Pint-sized popstrel Kylie's keen to get a proper foothold in the world of acting. Her most notable role to date - bar Neighbours - has been the green fairy in Moulin Rouge. The petite singer will also provide the voice of Florence in the forthcoming animated version of The Magic Roundabout. 'I have had a growing desire in the past few years to get back into acting,' says Kyles, who recently went to the US to audition for a role in the movie version of the 1970s comedy series Nanny And The Professor. She's conquered the charts - could she conquer the big screen?
